Migratory Bird Hunting Season Regulations Meeting
Saturday, March 31, 2018; 2 PM - 4 PM
Franklin Swamp WMA, 391 Route 32, in North Franklin.
The meeting provides interested parties an opportunity to comment on the proposed hunting season regulations for the 2018-2019 migratory bird seasons. DEEP will present proposed regulations and take all public comments. Final hunting season dates will be formulated shortly after the comments are compiled and evaluated. Hunters are reminded that DEEP accepts comments on the migratory bird hunting regulations year round; however, this meeting serves to finalize the regulations and is held immediately after the federal frameworks are set by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Wood Duck Box Building Day scheduled for March 3, 2018 has been cancelled. That's the bad news. Lumber was not available. The good news is that CWA volunteers did such a great job last year building 120 boxes (usual total is 70-80) that the Wildlife Division has an adequate stock of boxes for this year. We'll get back at it next year! Thanks to all who have participated in the past!
CWA had it's best attended Board meeting EVER on Wednesday, January 24, 2018.
Thirteen attendees participated in a very productive meeting.
Five Board members were present as well as eight members. I thank all for their participation and interest in Connecticut's waterfowl organization!

Bill Brubaker, an Instructor at the Barn for Artistic Youth (BAY) in Niantic, Connecticut, and his daughter Kathryn, who also works there, show off some mounts of waterfowl contributed to them by CWA. The BAY is a private art studio directed by Bill’s wife, Sophia, which provides art lessons to students of all ages and also to adults. They have provided many of the entries to Connecticut's Junior Duck Stamp Contest, administered by CWA. The BAY was sorely in need of additional mounts for students to use for their paintings and CWA came to the rescue!
The mounts were generously donated to CWA by Mark Luthman from Hubbardston, Massachusetts. Mark is an excellent taxidermist and a well-known goose hunting expert. In fact, his close friends call him the "Goose Commander.” CWA thanks Mark for his donation and knows that the BAY will put them to good use. If you have an interest in learning or further developing your painting skills, please contact the BAY at www.barn4art.com.
